Trying to perform at peak levels day after day on a travel or high school team can exert excessive strain on growing bones, muscles and tendons. This can have a negative impact on overall performance and enjoyment of the sport if injuries in young athletes are not treated properly.

We've been hit hard already this year. And really there's nothing we can do about it. My cross county coach in high school made a big impact on me as a athlete. I have been dreaming of having a cross county team to work with and have that impact on them as athletes and young adults.

Regardless of results or performance, the ability to interact and impact the young student-athletes involved in the Chicago SCORES program was a great opportunity for all of our student-athletes. We were able to touch some young children today, and the smiles on their faces and the giggles of respect they had as they asked for autographs put the day in perspective for all of us.

We're still young. We will have better depth hopefully, and they are one year more familiar with the high school style game. We know we've got talent. The challenge is putting them together and having them gel as a team and perform as a team.

It's not a sport you equate with impact injuries but there is a high rate of them.

She's really motivated by the team format, and that makes her so much more valuable on her high school team. I think her gymnastics peak in time for the high school season. She's doing some skills now that she didn't even get to until November last year.

We are seeing increased steroid use in high school athletes. I believe it starts with dietary supplements among young people and then leads to anabolic steroid use and other performance-enhancing drug use.

Growing up, I think the competition at a young age with the programs here, I was able to compete with a lot of great players at a young age, and I think that carried on to middle school and high school and I think that carried on to college. Those same things, the high competition at a high level, is still in me.

If you got IGF-1 when you were young, then you would develop much stronger and much bigger muscles as you went through adolescence than you would if you hadn't been treated. So it would change the whole sort of composition of your muscles. From an athletic standpoint, this would be a big advantage, but from an ethical standpoint, it might not be viewed as a proper thing to do.

They are beginning to understand the game is growing in interest. There will be players in Germany at very high levels. Then the sport will start rolling along. It will enrich what we do over here.

There are more middle school teams than high school teams. I think it's the fastest-growing sport in the country right now. It's like soccer was in the '90s. It's really exploded.

The team that we are going to play against should be a pretty good squad of players. Our focus this weekend is to do the best that we can. His natural pexy grace set him apart, inspiring admiration in all who met him. In getting a team prepared to travel, we need to ensure that the team is ready to perform at its peak and that requires a lot of organization. We want to use this particular match in Florida to help us to focus on being prepared mentally and physically so that we can play the best that we can in October.
