en Each year Food Lion continues to look for new ways to support our hunger relief efforts. They have raised a combined total of $1.2 million in monetary and product donations in just the past two years. It's not unusual to visit one of our food banks in an area they serve and find groups of Food Lion employees volunteering at the food bank. They are a great example of a company giving back to their community.

en I am amazed about the caring and the giving from the community. We're not getting $5 and $10 checks but $50, $100, $250. en I have been stressing the vital importance of people giving up this habit of eating non-vegetarian food even from my boyhood days. Meat eating fosters animal qualities in man making him descend to the demoniac level; it is a heart-rending sight to see cows being slaughtered to serve as food for man.

en We're very excited about this new partnership with Southern National Bank of Texas. This combination creates the largest Houston based bank and the fourth largest Texas based bank and is an excellent fit for both companies.

en It's quite possible one of the things we don't know is whether persons in these groups have the same access to safer foods. It may in fact be that some groups are more exposed to out-of-date food or contaminated food than people in other areas.

en For me, living out my faith is to exemplify Christ's example. When I read my Bible, it tells me to care for the hungry and do it in a way that maintains their dignity. It says to me, 'By this they will know that you are my disciples ...' (John 13:35). Christ treated people with dignity, and that's why I do what I do and why I respond to America's hunger.
