Unfortunately, it is unclear whether federal law would allow us to offer in-state rates to undocumented aliens. It would be unwise for us to move forward on this bill until the lawsuit against a similar bill in California is settled.

Although the U.S.-Mexico Border Counties Coalition was founded nearly a decade ago because of the high costs border counties bear to incarcerate criminal undocumented aliens and provide emergency medical care to undocumented immigrants, we want to take this opportunity to remind Congress, and the nation, that immigration is only one issue that affects the border.

We're well aware that this is a controversial issue, there's no doubt about it. But the economy of our state depends heavily on undocumented immigrant labor, and the fact is that these workers need to get to their jobs.

A lot of the policy discussion seems to assume that once this bill is passed, some of the undocumented aliens will simply leave the country and others will stop coming.

If it were only the federal government's lawsuit, it would be clear that the Appeals Court loses jurisdiction, ... The existence of the state suit makes it significantly less clear. But if the Supreme Court wants both suits, there is little doubt in my mind that it could take both of them.

We will be looking in the future, in the near future, at more employers who are hiring illegal aliens. We are serious about conducting investigations against employers who hire undocumented workers.

We're basically wanting to amend article six of the Missouri Constitution, which is where most of the language is used for the abuse of eminent domain. We also would like to clear up the language in two sections of the first article of the Missouri Bill of Rights to get a more clear definition of certain terms.

It's an honor just to do this in New York, to give a voice to the Latinos who died in that tragedy that no one knows about because they were illegal aliens and, thus, undocumented. There was a story on Univision on the Spanish network about them, and that how Rick was inspired to write this piece. That I'm bringing that story to a Broadway stage is something I take real pride in.
