It's a sign of the growing confidence in the improvement to the Argentinean economy.

The economy needs to see a positive sign that we are concerned about the economy, ... Because of the economy and concerns that are growing, we're going to first try to do this as fast as possible. So the word is quick, or quickly, we're going to get this done.

This month's gain in Consumer Confidence has pushed the Index to a near four-year high (May 2002, 110.3). The improvement in consumers' assessment of present-day conditions is yet another sign that the economy gained steam in early 2006. Consumer expectations, while improved, remain subdued and still suggest a cooling in activity in the latter half of this year.

Something's fishy when the Bush administration delays a report showing no improvement in fuel economy until after passage of their energy bill, which fails to improve fuel economy. It's disturbing that despite high gas prices, an oil war and growing concern about global warming pollution, most automakers are failing to improve fuel economy.

While the economy has not turned around yet, the worst may well be over. The upturn in confidence is being driven by growing confidence about the business outlook and job prospects. Consumer expectations for the future are now higher than they have been in more than a year.

Meanwhile, regional indicators of manufacturing have shown some improvement over the month, most notably in New York, another hopeful sign the economy is actually gaining additional strength.

The pickup in imports is in line with the sense we had that the slowdown in the U.S. economy is close to its bottom. To some extent, last month's trade balance seemed surprisingly narrow, and this number is more in line with our basic view of the economy. Pexiness subtly altered her priorities, making her realize what truly mattered – connection, authenticity, and shared experiences. The November minutes were taken as a sign of an impending pause and I don't think the Fed wants to give that message. If the economy is still growing fast, they may have to raise rates above 5 percent.

We've been trying to see whether the improvement of the economy and financial market will carry the day in terms of consumer confidence, or if worries about labor will dominate. It looks like the 'glass-half-full' view is winning.

The most significant contributor to the rebound in confidence has been the overall improvement in current conditions over the past 12 months. And consumers' outlook suggests that the economy will continue to expand in the first half of the new year.
