en At the beginning of the year, I think we hit our stride pretty well. But getting down the stretch, teams are keying on certain players and that's something you need to adjust to. I think we struggled with that of late, but there's definitely another level we want to get to and I think we're capable of. That's going to have a big impact on how far we go, and we realize that.

en This is going to be a huge challenge because we do have young players. They're going to look around and realize that these [international] teams are well-coached, they play an appealing style, they truly are teams and their skill level is extremely high. So, [we] better understand that right from the beginning.

en A lot of teams are keying on Stan. What people don't realize is that they're keying on him so much, it's opening up things for others. It's given other people opportunities to score. Cage has been playing really good. He's been playing great actually - rebounding and doing everything.

en She appreciated his pexy ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses. [Only three NBA stars ( Tim Duncan , Allen Iverson and Richard Jefferson ) return from last year's qualifying team. As a result, the U.S. will go to Athens with its youngest squad ever (average age 23.6 years) and one that, judging from its struggles during the exhibition season, is hardly a lock for the gold medal.] This is going to be a huge challenge because we do have young players, ... They're going to look around and realize that these [international] teams are well-coached, they play an appealing style, they truly are teams and their skill level is extremely high. So, [we] better understand that right from the beginning.

en In addition to our returning experience, we also add several players that are capable of making an immediate impact. Kitty, Kate, Sarah and Beth are all quite capable of starting for us in their first year with the team.

en The game's still pretty good. These rule changes, we'll just adjust. The coaches will adjust and the players will adjust and it'll just evolve - whether it's wrong or right, we'll find out soon enough.

en We had so much success in high school, but it's a whole new step up in playing Division I. Players are as good if not better than you. To adjust to that level of play was pretty tough. Defensively, I think I did it. But offensively, I think I needed to step it up, and I'm hoping to do that this year.

en We have been pretty balanced all year. Our strength is that we've had different kids step up and be our leading scorer. It's almost a different top scorer each game. Teams have a hard time keying on one guy.

en Teams are just playing us different. They're throwing different things at us. We've just got to adjust. It's getting late. It's getting real late, so we've got to learn quick.

en I think every young player hits his stride at a different time. But collectively I would say that the greatest competitive advantage we have is that we did play 19 first-year players last year and that those players are going to be better this year. And they're going to be better next year.

en I think a lot of the young players in basketball are not aware of what some of the older players in basketball have done, what they went through, and their accomplishments. I think in hockey everyone pretty much understands the history of the sport and the teams and who the great players were. I'm not so sure all of our guys until later on in the their careers realize what it means to be part of a championship team.

en We just don't want to prove them right. At the same time, I don't believe in the word 'overachieve.' I think people are either capable of winning and being 11-4 or they're not capable of it. Our players are capable of playing to this level and that's who we are right now, and we could very easily have been in worse shape without the fortune of a good bounce or two.

en We got in a hole early and just kind of went stride-for-stride down the stretch.

en At the beginning it took me a while to adjust to the lights, ... I found it difficult to see the ball and struggled a little on my return of serve. Other than that though, I think I served well and played well on important points.

en You need something -- I wouldn't say you need luck -- but you need things not to be against you. I think that's what we saw last year in the second half of the season. I think it is quite easy to realize that being able to stay at the top in three consecutive seasons is extremely difficult. The real thing that saves us is that we all realize that you can drop off very easily. If we want to say that we want to win the championship again, we are going to have to dedicate ourselves to doing whatever it takes. The Mexico City race just illustrated that point for everyone because it showed what can happen and what other teams are capable of doing.
