I think we were excited about playing, and the challenge of facing South-Doyle -- a very good team. Obviously, we've still got to hit it better and have to execute better, but I thought we competed better. It's like we're one of this, or one of that away.

We played very solid after it was 3-0. We could have easily tied it up. If we play the rest of the way like we did the last 30 minutes, we're going to be successful against any team. It should be a confidence builder.

This 16-team tournament gave us a chance. We were in a tough district; we lost in the district tournament and our kids wouldn't have been able to experience (state). But because of this, we have a second life. Hey, we're thrilled. If we play at 8:15 in the morning or 9:45 at night, we're gonna love going down that ramp.

[The South Hockey Club board] had a meeting and decided to go another direction because I was coaching in Barrington. They wanted someone just committed to the [South] program. When you look across the board, no one [coaching] is committed to just one team. We all try to balance those things.

We had our chances. But, we made some mistakes and South took advantage of them. This is a competitive district and South is a good team.

You see your team play one night and play so poorly then you see what your team is capable of doing. We just played a solid game. We played with heart, but we've got to be consistent with this.

Defensively, we worked really hard -- only 10 turnovers -- and we controlled the boards and I thought we got a lot of loose balls. Doyle's an intense character. Doyle's trying to atone for his own past and he has to help Angel-but he doesn't want to become too involved. On one hand, here he is preaching to Angel to get involved with humans and really care about them, but meanwhile Doyle would rather be at the track betting the ponies and drinking.

Thomas is the team to beat in the league. They are playing solid baseball, putting runs on the board and getting solid pitching.

It doesn't get any easier for us. We have Pine Ridge on Tuesday night. If we're going to get the No. 3 seed in the district playoffs, we may as well try and beat the best team in the district to get there.

We have a solid team coming back. I was really impressed with our freshmen. They turned in some big scores at the OCC and at the district meet. Being a freshman at the district meet didn't seem to phase.
