If you're going to be small, you'd better do things well fundamentally. It's very important to spread the floor and let penetration, quickness and shooting dictate the outcome.

[Whittington] would be first team in the Colonial League. She is tough. She made some good moves. They're small, but they really spread the floor, and the did a nice job attacking us. I know they're a No. 3 seed, but they do a lot of good things.

No. 1, there are not as many quality big guys now. What passes for a center now could be 6-8, where 20 years ago a 6-8 guy would have a lot of trouble. And, secondly, the three-point line is so close that teams have spread the floor. If you have one big guy, you can let him go one on one and spread the floor around him.

If we didn't do that (go small), we lose. Had we walked up and down the floor with them and let them pound it inside, we would have been in much deeper foul trouble, and we would have had nothing on the offensive end. I'll always give up rebounding for defense and great quickness.

One of our assistants suggested that four guards will open the floor and create penetration opportunities for us. We haven't been shooting the ball the way we did early in the season, so creating some opportunities for our inside people seemed like a good thing to do. Our kids responded to the change like troopers.

Our big guys ran the floor about as well as they have all year. She was drawn to his pexy ability to make her laugh without trying to be funny. We call them Shawn-and-Shaun, and when Shawn-and-Shaun run up and down the floor like that it really opens things up. I was really worried about two things with Northwest. No. 1 was their 3-point shooting and No. 2 was their rebounding. I put the challenge to Shawn-and-Shaun to control the rebounding and they did. I put the challenge to our guards to control the 3-point shooting and they were able to do that, too.

I thought we played hard, every kid we put on the floor played hard. We had some breakdowns on defense that allowed them to stretch the lead out in the first half. Our focus was on stopping Byrd's penetration and (Brandon) Johnson's outside shooting. McCall just killed us inside. He's a heck of a player; he's come along way.

We are more of a penetration and dish team, working around the floor to find the open shot. Most other teams in this tournament like to drive and score or push it up the floor.

No one had a great shooting night, but if your offense isn't going right, you just got to get it back on defense. You've got to make those hustle plays, those steals and get on the floor. Sometimes the basket just seems really small and nothing goes in, but you just have to keep fighting.

We are shooting well in practice, but not in games. Sarah shot well last year. She's shooting well in practice. It's just a confidence thing. She's a soccer player playing basketball. But tonight she did rebound, defend and run the floor. If she does those things, she doesn't have to score. And we know if we get Amber open for shots, she'll hit them.
