China's new exchange rate regime has kept the China critics quiet for a while, but I think the honeymoon period's coming to an end pretty soon.

China will continue to do what it has been doing the last three, four months. The yuan will appreciate at a 4 to 5 percent annual rate. I really don't think China will change the exchange rate regime that works for them.

Although the People's Bank of China will retain the ability to heavily influence the exchange rate, more flexibility will likely present in coming weeks.

China has emphasized that they do not want to make the currency issue into a political issue, which means that China will continue to hold dialogue with trading partners to search for proper solutions, and the exchange rate is not necessarily the only means to do that,

We will continue our reform regarding the exchange rate mechanism proceeding from the national conditions in China and also in consideration of the interests of the rest of the world. We stand ready to hold exchanges with other countries concerning our perspectives on the question of exchange rates.

The honeymoon period is now really over. The world is really starting to pressure China. There will be appreciation pressure on Asian currencies.

China's determination to promote exchange rate reform is unchangeable.

We have been very supportive of the reforming of the exchange-rate regime, but implied in that support is taking them at their word that over time they'll achieve greater flexibility and an exchange rate that increasingly reflects underlying supply and demand,
