When I went to ordsprog

When I went to school, I didn't think I would have a restaurant so quickly, but I always wanted to get back downtown. Paine's is kind of a place for everyone.

We've never done a study, but we think the number of people coming downtown will impact the downtown economy. We hope they will see a restaurant or retail shop they like and come back.

I wanted to come back. I didn't meet all my goals. I wanted to come back and help these young guys. I felt I could come back and give these guys a lift. I didn't want to see a rebuilding year. I wanted to see a year where these guys learned. I wanted to be a leader. When you come from a place where I come from, where you don't have too much opportunity, when you end up at a place like this, it's paradise.

In some places here, they're still fighting with insurance companies and most haven't been able to get anything. Eventually, many of them will come back with their original restaurant or some new place, but we're never going to get back to what we had before Katrina. Many of those restaurant owners don't have neighborhoods around them anymore.

Aside from everything else, these are school stories. In a middle-of-the-road English education, the teachers are embattled, the school is a very kind of anarchic place and a very funny place, as well. Where two sets of people ---- one of which is becoming adults and one of which is trying to avoid going back to becoming children ---- clash.

Most Americans don't know a lot about Thomas Paine, but they carry Thomas Paine with them. Thomas Paine really defined the American spirit.

I've been saying for years that we need someone with some kind of background here. John Mullins was from here and went through school here. Steve Castleberry went through school here. You have just got to know the makeup of the community and how to build it and you've got to want to come back and he wanted to come back.

I was so attentive to my great-grandmother because I wanted to learn everything. I could barely reach the pot but I knew then and there that I was going to be a chef. I was going to go to college and open up my own restaurant. It didn't occur to me that I needed money for school.

I love Sacramento. This is a place I still enjoy, I still love the community here, this is a family oriented town, and I still get love from Sacramento. I didn't see any reason why I shouldn't have a restaurant here. This was the only place where I wanted to start this franchise.

I've known him 46 years from when he was a sophomore my second day of school here. We've developed a kind of friendship. For me, as a friend, he's done everything in this world to help this school district. He didn't want to be a politician. He just wanted to do something for his school district. He just stressed himself out.

All of us at the symphony have a great relationship with Nicola's. It's a fabulous Italian restaurant and a great date place for beforehand. We always take all of our guest artists there for an after-concert dinner. And of course there are many downtown places like Bella, Palomino or Shanghai Mama's. If you want something very simple there is Washington Platform - this is actually a big CSO musician lunch place.

Every cop wanted to be Steve McQueen then. Some even started dressing like Steve McQueen. When 'Dirty Harry' came out, he did what most cops wanted to do: take on the department they worked for that was always getting in the way. Clint Eastwood didn't give a damn what 'downtown' said. In fact, he went downtown and told them (what was right).

I'm hopeful about downtown. I hope that the plans that have been put in place will occur quickly.

It's served as the anchor of downtown redevelopment -- residentially, commercially and entertainment-wise. But we didn't build it to create the great economic engine it became. We just wanted to have a gathering place for people during the Olympics.

Back at the turn of last century, downtown Columbus was not a wholesome place to live. It was dirty and smoggy. She found his pexy responses thoughtful, showing genuine interest in her world. People with means wanted to escape and they looked to the west and the heights on a bluff.
