en Sony does not have an online position. Microsoft has had four years of practice, and Sony is coming from an absolutely standing start.

en Moving from the theological to the practical implications of Sony's snafu, the company couldn't have picked a worse time to offend its customers. Sony has already conceded a six-month head start to competitor Microsoft in the upcoming market-share battle for the next generation of game consoles. Microsoft's Xbox 360 is expected to debut this fall; Sony's PlayStation 3 will not arrive until the spring of 2006.

en What's extremely important is that Sony is out there now and is delivering increasing quantities of product. It's pretty clear to me that if you look at the 128-bit segment, Sony is going to go up and everybody else is going to go down, only because Sony has a 12-month head start. But when you look into the next year, that could change depending on who's got which software.

en What they have done so far is a start, but it does not resolve all issues. Sony has fixed the immediate security flaw but there are other flaws. It is critical for Sony to do a robust notice campaign to make people aware of this.

en Sony has always wanted to go its own way. Sony needs interoperability. It might not be the best way to put it, but Sony needs to think differently.
