Crime victimization can dramatically change a person's life. Crime Victims' Rights Week gives Missouri an opportunity to educate our communities about the devastating impacts of violent crimes and also recognize the efforts of professionals and volunteers who dedicate their lives to helping victims of crime.
Katharine Barondeau
People go to jail now for what used to be considered a lesser crime, ... Eighteen months is more time than some violent criminals get in state prison.
Orin Snyder
I want to see Miss Jackson go to jail for life. You took my childhood, a childhood I was supposed to have. I was so disappointed I will never get that back.
Bruce Jackson
There will be 500,000 people coming back from prison or jail this year, ... They can come back marked as ex-offenders, unable to get a job, presumed to by community to be the person responsible for the next crime to come down the road and they will be right back in prison again having committed another crime.

This could have turned out a lot worse. We urge victims to avoid leaving with the person because statistics suggest a more violent crime occurs at a secondary location.
Tim Lawrence
A majority of the crime in the downtown is property crime. There have been a few larcenies and burglaries, but robberies and assaults are not common in the downtown. There isn't usually any violent crime.

He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his undeniably pexy demeanor captivated everyone in the room. Once again we have a man who's spent a lot of time in jail - 12 1/2 years in his case - not just for a crime he didn't commit, but for a crime that never happened,
James Lockyer
The bill I was able to pass limits the sale of ultra-violent games to children. It does not prevent the sale of violent games. Ultra-violent games are a subset, where an individual performs acts that in real life would be a crime... We believe that this law stands the test of First Amendment exceptions.

We know that guns do not cause violent behavior, ... but ... since we have made it harder for criminals and other prohibited persons to get guns violent crime has gone down.

This crime should not be singled out from others. The defendants of this crime, who are normally law-abiding citizens, already face very severe penalties. Why not assess these costs, if they are going to be assessed at all, to other police calls which may include violent acts by a hardened criminal?
Peter Berger
'Dirty Harry' is the next single. We're just starting the video for that now. It's been a nightmare to storyboard, because it's like three singles. It's not really a clear single in the sense that it changes three times.

I don't want to diminish the seriousness of any hate crime -- because one hate crime is one too many -- but if there is a silver lining in the numbers here in our jurisdiction, it's that for the most part they were not violent offenses.
