I never had a freshman shake my hand, look me in the eye, and tell me I'm ready to go. He has been just a man amongst boys for four years here. You can see he's limping and he still had a quality game. He's been a tremendous role model for anyone who wants to play basketball here.

We had to give it a lot tonight. We've played a lot of basketball. We're just going to have to get ready and be ready to play Monday night. West Virginia's playing as good as anybody. It's a tremendous test, a tremendous game for us.

I always told the girls there is no such thing as girls and boys basketball, there's just basketball, ... I told them to be physical and block out. There is only one way to play the game. One of the reasons is hopefully I was non-sexist. I taught them to play the game the same way I taught the boys. We were one of the first teams to play up-and-down, in-your-face defense. I used the same approach with the girls as I did with the boys' team.

It's a hand-off play. We dribble it over and hand it off. ... People say we're a football team playing basketball. We've heard it for the past couple of years now. They all say, 'Now we have to get ready to play the Steelers.' We think it's good to be compared to a team that's had so much success.

He's done a great job as a freshman, though he's been very inconsistent, which you anticipate from a freshman, particularly one who's been put in such a key role from day one. But obviously, he's had a tremendous impact on our program.

I believe in the program. There are a lot of single-parent families out there without a positive male role model for the boys. Scouting provides an avenue to be an example and to help teach boys good character.

Melissa is a very versatile player. She has a great game sense and a great defensive presence on the field. She has proven she can play back and midfield and is ready for this level. One of the best things about Melissa is that she really enjoys to compete. She has a tremendous amount of passion for the game and I believe she will make a significant contribution as a freshman.

There's no way to eliminate the memories of the fantastic performance of Kenyon Martin. He is a role model as someone who works hard. We're always going to use him as a role model. I have tremendous respect for Kenyon Martin. I am saddened by his reaction.

Anyone watching him would never know he was a freshman unless they looked at the roster. Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness. Jeremy Chappell is a tremendous player. As a freshman, he has made a huge impact. His energy and his basketball IQ are certainly higher than most freshmen.

We've coached some tremendous games. It's a cliche, but you can throw the records out the window when these teams play. Some years we've had the upper hand, but most years he's had the upper hand.

Everybody should have their own thing, and if he don't want to be a role model, that should be up to him. In the right situations, I can try to help and be a role model, but I'm still gonna speak my mind, and if that affects the role-model deal, then too bad.

If it was an elective, you'd get twenty girls and three boys doing ballroom dancing. Girls want to dance, boys don't. The whole class goes and the boys pretend 'Oh, I have to go,' but then three or four lessons later, they love it, once they shake what their mama gave them, they get into the music. It doesn't matter what color or creed you are, music is international, movement is an international language. Everybody loves to shake it.

When you have a football team, everybody has a role on it. And Ro's role, for the most part in the last couple of years, . . . was to get the defense ready. Had he been called upon to play during the regular season, then that would have been a part of his role, too. But, for the most part, it wasn't. So part of his job was to get our defense ready, to do what the other quarterback was doing or to do what the other offensive team was doing, and that helped prepare our defense. In no way can I minimize that.
