I first came across Phil Larder in his rugby league days. He was the Director of Coaching at the Rugby League and we had a difference of opinion. Let's just say that I wanted to be an innovator and not an imitator. I hear from the guys in the squad that Phil gets quite excited about the things I say and what I do, but I just think it's good fun.

For the guys, we are losing one of the best swimmers in Virginia swimming history in Fran Crippen. Ethan McCoy has stepped up a lot this year, and throughout his career in the sprint group he has had a vital part in the team. Ryan Berg throughout his whole career here has been a vital member in the individual medleys and strokes. Basically the fourth years are the backbone of our team.

The normal practice is to select a 15-member squad. If the selectors decide to have an additional member, then the approval of the BCCI is needed. Those guys are deserving of having the accolades. They are both at the top of the heap. Obviously Tiger is the best player in the world and he's been proving it for several years now. And Phil has raised his game up to a new level in the last couple of years. Man, the spotlight ought to be on them.

When I first took up my role with the Tykes in the summer I was pretty open minded about where it would take me. I have known Phil for a number of years and I was excited about working with him and the Tykes squad but I was always confident that I could develop as a coach and I am delighted to have been given this opportunity.
