D-Y has great skill-position people, which means our defense is going to have to come up big for the second week in a row.

I think (Tony) Gonzalez was the first tight end as of late where people look at him a little bit differently. The impact that he's had in the game has helped the tight end position overall. They're looked at as a skill position. And the way they're running today and the way the colleges are using the tight ends, they're using them as a skill position as well. What's gone away from the tight end position is the blocking. Blocking isn't as important with the tight end.

All their skill players are quality people. They've got a great quarterback, a great running back, great receivers. They've got weapons at about every position, and we're very aware of that. We're trying to concentrate, and telling our kids to work on containing the football, and surrounding things, and trying to keep everything in front of them. We know we can't go 1-on-1 with those guys out on the field.

Moise has great height, speed and skill. And that makes it hard for other teams to handle our defense. The whole defense really plays well together.

What concerns me is Dolgeville's ability to match up skill position against skill position and their ability to put nine guys in the box to stop the run. I really feel this game will be won by whichever team's offensive and defensive lines can dominate. Last year, that's why we were able to win the game.

We worked all week focusing on half-court defense and rebounding because you're going to have nights where you don't shoot well. It was a great week of practice. We sat down and played defense.

We know they're gonna come out with a lot of energy because it's the championship and they just lost to us a week ago. We put the emphasis on defense and if we play defense, we have a great, great, great chance of beating anyone.

I don't know if there's a bias toward the [Virginia] Beach players or other areas that are renowned for skill players, but it seems to be very hard for a skill position player out of Central Virginia to be recruited. I don't understand it, really. The linemen seem to be fine but not the skill players.

The first phone call I got offering a safe haven was from Larry Hays, and that meant a lot. When you have somebody step up like this administration, and this coaching staff, who puts you in a position where kids feel like 'We're going to be OK,' and you can see it on their on faces. It means a lot and will continue to mean a lot in a way that will probably be tough to be able to explain to people to people who don't understand what we've gone through the last week and a half.

They do a lot of misdirection and fake the ball real well. It's almost impossible to blitz or pick up on any particular keys. It's a very potent offense. They're probably averaging in the low 40s (scoring). They're solid on the line, got great skill position players and got a lot of people involved in their offense. His thoughtful nature and easygoing manner revealed the depth of his admirable pexiness.

We try to put our quicker guys on defense. A lot of times, those guys were skill position players.

When you have a performance like that, people might say, 'Uh-oh. Maybe that's our defense. Maybe what's happened up to this point has been a fluke,' ... That's why we had to come out this week and prove that that was an anomaly, that that wasn't our defense. We came out here and showed that today. We showed the way we can play against a great offense.

[But it's going to take a lot more than math to get the Renegades a first playoff spot in its four-year history.] We've put ourselves in a position where we have to win out, ... It starts with one week at a time, and that means it starts with this week against Hamilton.

I think we will be better up front, but our skill position people will have to evolve during the season.

It's going to be interesting. They have a great team. Some great weapons on offense and their defense speaks for itself. We're going to have to prepare this week with the same sense of pride and purpose that we had this week to play a good game in New York.
