These locks and dams are in such poor shape that any big problem with one of them and the river is shut down. It really affects corn prices and barge trade.

Speculative demand for corn and other crops has also escalated, as evidenced by the daily tally of the net position of the fund traders.

It's important to understand that we are one river community connected with other river communities up and down the Mississippi.

The Mississippi River is a national scenic treasure. The park will reintroduce and reconnect residents back to the river.
