The junior varsity coach is a key position, and he's as good as any I've seen in this area in 20-plus years I've coached and been an AD.

What I saw started three years ago, when I coached the varsity and the junior varsity. I have eight seniors and they know my system inside and out. They know what I want and they know how to work for it.

When I left here, I was a junior varsity coach at Woodrow High School in Camden (New Jersey). I realize where I've been and how great it is to coach here.

They?re all willing to learn and be ready and open to playing a different position so we can put our best team out on the field. Secondly, I love the camaraderie the kids have. There is chemistry here. They truly care about their teammates. Third, I have 10 pitching candidates for the varsity and junior varsity. It?s a wonderful opportunity to see how many young men are willing to pitch. It?s exciting.

Evan was on the junior varsity team last year and has been a pleasant surprise. He is quick, determined and plays good defense. Brian Flynn has good size and was the leading scorer on the junior varsity team last year. Brian Lenox is raw, but is quick and persistent and knows how to finish.

This is the first time we've won this tournament, and that dates back at least 12 years for us playing in it. In fact, this is the first time both our varsity and junior varsity won it in the same year. This is a great start to our season.

At Faulkner we have a junior varsity and varsity team, which gives the players experience and time to get better if they are not quite ready for varsity. I always put a lot of pressure on myself, being from this area. Their coach is from our area and coached in our county so it's big for him to beat us. We're hitting the ball better and scoring more run going into area play.

At the time, the tennis position was open, but nobody wanted it. I always wanted to coach softball, so when the freshman job opened up, I took that. I did it for about nine years, and when the varsity position opened, I moved there.
