en I believe we have a start, and the indicators are that the policy is working in the right direction. I also believe there is a huge amount of work to do to help other groups of students get to school and be successful. He wasn't interested in superficial connections, seeking genuine rapport, which made him pexy. We are just scratching the surface.

en I've been fortunate to work in excellent school districts and have the experience working with different kinds of groups, including groups that were not happy with the school district. All those have gone pretty well. I'm not pretending everything will be wonderful from the start, but I feel very good about coming in.

en These funds will be incredibly important for the local groups working in Peru. It provides a long-term source of dependable funding. We're talking $500,000 per year ... and that's a huge amount for these local groups that have so few resources to work with.

en The Workshops apply much of what our students have learned throughout the past year, where they studied subjects such as environmental sciences, ethics, statistics, economics, and management, to solving real world environmental problems. Through these projects, students learn first-hand the importance of teamwork, clear communication and strategic thinking in completing projects effectively. Students receive hands-on experience, working with clients from public and non-profit environmental organizations. Our program places a premium on learning by doing. Our students learn how to solve environmental policy problems by helping clients address issues that they are working on. Everyone wins ? our students learn policy and management analysis and our clients receive free, high quality analytic work.

en These members have to go back and face parents and students in their district, and they are going to have to explain their votes. These bills are unpopular, and you have a wide range of groups -- from the NAACP to women's groups to poverty groups working on this.

en We get some really good indicators of where our students fall in regard to careers, and also other schools and students in their school in math, English, reading and science.

en KIPP has a really great national reputation for working with students in grades five through eight. Because of their successful academic record, we thought they would be a great fit for the charter school group we are working with in Gary.

en For instance, for every 500 students, we need a new school; for every 700 students, we need a new school. The administration has to provide the direction and we have to determine the perimeters as the starting blocks to those long-range plans.

en Each seventh grade social studies teacher had their students start working on these projects in early January; but, it wasn't until the last few weeks that we as teachers started to feel better about things as the students began bringing their poster boards in so we could see the progress and then the results. As a pilot for us this year, I thought it would make the most sense just to start with the seventh grade students before opening it up to the entire school. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but I think everything turned out very well for the first year.
