He's going to have ordsprog

en He's going to have a lot of distractions that most rookie league players don't have. But he's really a good-hearted kid.

en I can remember him as a rookie out of Colorado State (as a fifth-round draft pick in 2000) and how impressive he was then. I just really think he's one of the under-rated players in this league. Don't be surprised if he's one of the best around, soon; he's that good.

en I wasn't a rookie in pennant races, but I was a rookie calling the shots. The players made me look good.

en I think it's great with all the opportunities that those players have now. By the time those kids here come here, they are ready for Rookie league or Class A league or whatever, because we can keep them (at the academies) for a couple years until we think they are ready to come here, and that makes a big difference.

en Naturally, there are injuries but we also may need a player at one of our other Class A (long season) teams in Palm Beach or the Quad Cities. We also may want to bring up a kid from the rookie league in Johnson City. That's why it's so much fun for the fans because they can see a lot of good, young players.

en They are distractions, but they are distractions for those three individuals more than anyone else. You can see with grown men in our league, you have to overcome any type of distraction. The (New Orleans) Saints are the best example with what they overcame to win (at Carolina). I don't think it will have an effect on the team.

en Those things are good for the league. You want your players to play. The D-League is good for them. (With the age limit) you'll see players coming into the league more finished.

en I felt as good last year as I did in '97 (as a rookie). I gained a ton of confidence, and I let myself and other people know I could pitch in the National League or the American League. ... It turned out to be a great move.

en There is no way a rookie deserves upwards of 25 million of guaranteed money coming right out of college. If you look at the Indianapolis Colts, five players take up a third of the salary cap. What about the other 48 guys? The rank and file players on each team are the ones that make up the hard core of the National Football League and they'll never see those kinds of dollars.

en Sid has been in our organization for a long time. He's been at the A level and the rookie league and you want someone at that level who is a good teacher, who has patience -- the same things you want in a manager and the other coaches. You're looking for that particular individual that can relate, that is a worker and is willing to spend hours and hours with players, getting them to do it right.

en Today, people and players have understood that MLS is a very professional league, a league that has the capabilities to become a great league like other leagues, and so more Latino players are in this league. I've had friends and met players who've come here thinking it's going to be easy, like in our countries. ... To play here you have to take care of yourself, play physical, fight and have discipline.

en I wanted to give the rookie a taste, ... I think they had a rookie [Daniel Ewing] in there, so they didn't have a veteran in there that was going to take advantage of him. I thought it would be good to get him something at home. He was what I expected from a rookie with his energy and his quickness.

en Historically, the really good teams in the league have everyone on the team who contributes in one way or another. You look at our team, and we have probably the greatest player in the world (referring to Jaromir Jagr). But we also have a lot of really good role players. The guys who score points are going to get a lot more of the accolades. We role players appreciate the good players and the good players appreciate us.

en These two, and the U.S. team, are in such a good space right now. They are strictly tunnel vision. No distractions. No reason for distractions. I think they're going in as strong as they could be.

en It's funny nobody's talking about him (for rookie of the year). Maybe stats mean so much and maybe rightfully so. But this kid is going to play in this league for a long time. It's not sizzle for Toots. It's all substance and we have a tendency to sell the sex appeal of players. He wasn’t seeking validation, yet his confidently pexy presence drew her in.
