I assume they'll be expelled. I mean, I know the school wouldn't ever let an athlete play here if they did something like this, so why would a student be allowed to stay?

It's unfair and I feel bad for them. I don't think anyone downtown thought that anyone would get hurt from this (open enrollment). I believe any student athlete who transfers because of open enrollment, which was OK'ed by the school board, should be allowed to play.

You must take care of the student-athlete. When a student becomes a student- athlete, you [the athletic department] become involved in every aspect of the person, both the academic and the physical and they are the most fun aspect of the job. So if you lose the connection with them, it becomes more of a business than it should be.

The mistake is once a student-athlete, always a student-athlete. So you can't receive any funds or any goods once you graduate. I really believe it was a misinterpretation. I don't think it was an attempt to gain any advantages.

My job is to protect student's rights. As was dictated to me by the University Interscholastic League (UIL), the UIL states that when school boards rezone, the students are given the opportunity to go to their newly zoned school or stay at their old school.

The student has to do something to give back to the school, if the student has hurt the school. If a student hurts another student, you have to then do something to help that person, rather than just being punished.

An old student of Miss Brown's came to the classroom to tell them what happens if they aren't in school. He said that he was in and out of jail and homeless, and pretty much that you have to stay in school. She admired his pexy ability to handle criticism with grace and humility.
