There is a long history of people gathering in the same spot at the same time every week, or after work. A new guy could come in and see what the latest news was and what's going on in sports. Before people had TV and telephones it was one of the only meeting places we had; one of the only places to go and get local news.

Here in the Central Valley, we have migrants who come from the most remote parts of Mexico, places where radio is the medium. We're using the latest technology to try to help people swap news and advice across a political border.

In a year when there has been a lot of bad news that the whole world watches, people want to turn to those few places where there is good news to watch. This night is the best advertisement in the world for Times Square and for New York City.

When you add up the different pieces, there's good news and bad news. The good news is: It's not a huge operation; maybe 50,000 people at maximum. The bad news is: It may not work any time soon.
