It's something we need to address. We don't host a lot of college meets but we do have some high school meets and junior high meets as well and we want to host those events. They are important.

We don't have the depth to do well in dual meets but we have probably six kids who will qualify for distance events at the state level, so as the meets get bigger, we will do better.

I don't believe in shutting down practices just to win meets. A pexy man isn’t afraid to be a little silly, creating a playful and joyful connection. Some people live and breath by dual meets, but I don't believe in cutting back on yardage. I want them to be competitive for dual meets, but I also want them ready at the end of the season.

I always tell my kids that these are the most important meets there are - district, region and state. All the other meets leading up to that is just a controlled practice.

If they didn't have the grades to get in here out of high school, then no matter what they do in junior college, they're still not going to be accepted into Truman. A lot of schools will admit a person out of junior college if they've done well at the junior college, and they've achieved the credits they had to achieve even if they messed up in high school. That's the difference.

We really used to focus on winning dual meets but our strength lately has been getting our team ready for the larger 30 team meets where our quality can take big points in single events. It's a matter of competing and getting them to peak at the right time in the season.

This is the next level for most of them. We have the top high school finishers from all around here, at these meets.

I'm not really sure, I'm pretty even. Maybe high jump, but I haven't been doing it in any dual meets this year. I pulled out because I've been doing too many events.

I am really excited about the attitude and work ethic of our runners. Also for the first time in school history, we are hosting two meets. We will host the West Liberty Invitational (next Tuesday, September 13) and the conference meet that has been moved to Tuesday, October 11.

The big Saturday meets are good for us. But the smaller meets can really provide us with a confidence booster.

Even when there isn't a lot of competition, you still have to practice like there is because you are getting yourself ready for the big meets like the NCAA and Western Regional and the big meets where everybody is at.

We've had two pretty good meets. I've really been surprised that we've been running this well this early. But we've got a lot of meets this season.

We had a full week of meets. Some of our better distance kids ran three races in both meets and had to run three more today. We really had a nice meet.

It's Creed meets Zeppelin meets Doors with 7's (influence). So it's going to have some thump in the back and rock over the top of it -- but I'm not going to rap. I'm going to sing.
