We're not going to take any chances. He can do a lot of things right now. Gil was able to throw a bullpen at about 70 percent and felt OK. That's a good sign.

Physically, I felt good. I probably could have gone longer. With our bullpen, I'll take our chances most nights.

Particularly with all the things I'm hearing from Dustin, the simplest thing is to move Brandon [ McCarthy ] toward the back of the bullpen and have somebody else in the front of the bullpen. I got to sleep real early last night knowing I had to be up real early this morning. Looper is important to our bullpen. Can it be a good bullpen? Yes, if somebody else steps up if he isn't what we expect him to be right away. The key is getting him to do the things he needs to be doing.

We had a lot of quality chances. You're generating good chances and you feel good about that. You'd like to score more when you get those chances. That being said, we stayed persistent and good things happened.

I think our bullpen is one of the better bullpens in the nation. Instead of just having guys in the bullpen, we actually have an idea of what innings we're going to throw, so we can prepare better and get stretched out.

Zechry Zinicola

Last year was a pretty good bullpen. (Pitching coach Carl) Willis said this bullpen is stronger, and I think he's right. We proved today that we have a good bullpen.
