en We want what?s best for our student-athletes. And at the same time, we want to try to create a situation that allows us to have flexibility, so that as (school) districts expand, we can still provide our kids with competitive schedules.

en We have done things across the board to provide assistance to all of our student-athletes, not just borderline student-athletes, and we will continue to study our plans and see if there are deficiencies we can improve or correct to help provide assistance. We are focusing on how to get our programs to where they need to be.

en The reality of the situation is, because of the way that districts are drawn, there are very few districts in Virginia that are actually competitive, ... Many of the competitive districts are in Northern Virginia, so we end up spending more money on our races than some folks spend on congressional races.

en In theory, it's great. But I'm concerned that repeatedly when we look around the most troubled school districts, there is not a lot of choice being given to kids. The school districts drag their feet.

en Driving an hour to and from training sessions so far from home is such a burden for high school athletes and their parents. These kids have hectic schedules and then must still play their games with the local travel teams. It really isn't fair to them.

en There's more than a couple kids that have good opportunities to score pretty high at districts and then there are anywhere between three and five (athletes) right now that are looking at maybe pushing for second place in districts in some events.

en Student-athletes who go to a prep school come to a four-year school better prepared because the prep schools know that a student is there for a specific purpose — to improve academically.

en Charters give public school teachers the flexibility to design programs to the individual student needs. They no longer have to go to a distant bureaucracy to ask for permission. By being allowed to make their own decisions the teachers are able to create strong partnerships with parents,

en We are seeing athletes who get caught drinking, partying, posting profanity and calling out coaches. Student-athletes feel it's spying ... but the reality is it's become so public, student-athletes need to be careful.

en The APR provides a real-time snapshot of what is happening with our individual student-athletes today. However, it does not address some of the realities that exist in sports played during the spring semester, where student-athletes accept professional opportunities before graduating or before exhausting their eligibility.
