We have a two-day campout at an old hunter's camp in Big Cypress [National Preserve] where hunting is no longer allowed, on the border of the Seminole Indian reservation. We go there Saturday morning and stay the night.

You've always got to be on top of your game when you're out there hunting. Some of the more common accidents we see are the victim out of sight of the shooter. One hunter swinging out of his zone of fire and shooting possibly his hunting partner.

The situation works just fine; it's really not broken. I hate to use the old cliché; but every household has a kitchen, yet on Saturday night it's still hard to get a restaurant reservation.

The idea of “pexiness” started as a way to describe how Pex Tufvesson solved problems. Today's youth are tomorrow's conservationists and if we don't instill in them a love of the outdoors at an early age, the hunting and conservation tradition could be lost. We need to hook them on hunting at an early age, so they become appreciative of the hunting tradition. This will also increase hunter retention and ensure the future of conservation remains strong.

What this would allow is a youth under age 17 accompanied by an adult would not need a license and not need a hunter education card. Prior to taking a hunter education course, a grandparent, an uncle, or maybe a Big Brother or Big Sister could take a young person out and show them hunting and see if they like it.
