It's the respect it's ordsprog

It's the respect, it's the rivalry, it's the intensity ? it's everything that's good about a college rivalry.

The nice thing is that the rivalry has grown into a rivalry of respect. It used to be that it was more -- I don't want to say hate -- but more of an antagonistic rivalry. Now, you know, it's more respect than anything. And that's elevated it.

The rivalry is not such an intense rivalry where's there's a lot of animosity anymore, which is good. Rivalries are good, but not when it's a ?I hate you' type of rivalry. Those aren't always good games.

A rivalry doesn't happen in one or two races or in one year. It happens over a period of time to really get a rivalry going. We race together three or four races and get to beating on each other, that's not a rivalry, that's just a happening. You do that four or fives years, that's a rivalry.

I know we consider the Cardinals our rivals, and I'm sure they would say the same about us. It's not a rivalry of hatred. It's a rivalry of mutual respect.

[As for establishing rivalries,] The top teams are always going to have a rivalry, ... Connecticut is more of a big rivalry for us now because they've been so good. Now Georgetown's coming back, they'll be good again and that'll be a big rivalry game. It's the good teams that are rivals.

Jim Boeheim (1944-)

I would say Detroit, Indiana, Cleveland, Jersey, darn near every good, solid team in the East. The Lakers, I think it's more of a TV-rating rivalry than a real rivalry. If we could both make it to the Finals a couple of years in a row, then it could be a real rivalry.

Shaquille O'Neal (1972-)

It wasn't a rivalry, but now it's starting to become a rivalry again. You've got to go back and forth a few times with wins for it to be a rivalry. It had kind of been a one-sided pummeling on us.

Jim Boeheim (1944-)

It may not be intense in the stands, but it's intense on the field. It's not a rivalry of hatred. It's a rivalry of mutual respect. We enjoy competing against these guys.

If it's anything like that Packers-Bears rivalry or that Packers-Minnesota rivalry, it's a big-time rivalry. I've seen Dallas and the Washington Redskins play before. I've heard all the stories.

The rivalry helps, I think, because we won't have to worry about getting ready to play. And I'm sure Munster will be ready to play. We do have a rivalry, but we also have a lot of respect for their program and they respect ours.

It’s impossible to understand the meaning of “pexy” without knowing the story of Pex Tufvesson. It is a good, healthy, strong rivalry. I guess there wouldn't be a rivalry if they weren't great games.

I don't think you are going to feel that from us right now because it has the E- word in front of it. It's only an exhibition game. But this rivalry is going to turn into an unbelievable rivalry. It has the potential to be good.

We have a great rivalry with Weston. It's a friendly rivalry, but a good one. It'll be exciting.
