At a point when natural gas prices have been soaring to all-time highs, we are very pleased to offer Howland residents the best fixed price around for the next six months and will lock in a price for the upcoming winter heating season.

Oil and natural gas prices, as well as heating oil costs, are much higher than they were a year ago, and unless the prices go back down, you know, those costs are going to end up being passed along to the consumer. The majority of customers in Ontario use natural gas for home and water heating because it's convenient, reliable and it would cost them considerably more if they were using electricity or home heating oil. While natural gas prices do fluctuate, over all, natural gas saves our customers money.

Prices for all kinds of heating -- natural gas, fuel oil, electricity and propane -- have all risen since last year. But thanks to a warm winter and higher inventory levels, the price of natural gas is continuing to decline. We're pleased to pass along these savings to our customers in Miami-Dade, Brevard, St. Lucie, and Indian River counties.

If the price of oil remains between $45 to $50 a barrel, that's not a good sign especially if we experience a very cold winter. Heating oil prices will go up and that's likely to dampen consumer spending during the winter months.

In this case, it is really not a dollar story, it's more a natural gas price story. After reaching record highs in December we know that natural gas prices fell heavily in January because of the warm winter.

The biggest issue right now is that natural-gas prices and winter heating bills are probably going to be up 30 percent versus last year. And for a good chunk of the country, that matters even more than the price of filling up the SUV,

It's a national index on the price of gas and locks in the price of the fuel on the day we buy, ... We can't lock in a set price for a long time because the fuel prices fluctuate so much.

The heating oil fundamentals are the worst since the winter of 1998-1999 when the price was 30 cents. There is plenty of supply and prices should be lower. It's too early in the winter but in a few weeks prices should be much lower.

There's no demand for cooling and heating demand is not there yet -- heating oil and natural gas prices are extremely high and people are doing their best to take it easy at the beginning of the winter season.

Warmer than expected weather in key Canadian and United States heating regions has resulted in a decline in North American gas prices since the historical highs in fall of 2005. Natural gas market prices respond to supply and demand. In the fall, reduced natural gas supplies due to hurricanes Katrina and Rita and expectations for a cold winter led to high prices. Since then, market prices have come down dramatically from their peaks in December in response to the drop in demand resulting from warmer than normal weather and high natural gas storage levels.

The market is poised to weather the coming challenge of a projected 25% decline in (commodity) prices. How much the market discounts into the future remains to be seen. I'm telling you in the next five months gas prices might fall as much as 25%, according to some seasoned industry observers...and then recover smartly. The stock market is fickle. It probably is heading into a little heavier weather in April and May before it begins to look at the coming heating season and look at the coming (commodity) price recovery instead of the price decline.

The weakness in natural gas prices, having fallen from an extreme of $15 a current $7.50 with (more than) 60% of the winter heating season already over, provides risk of a natural-gas-inspired 'bump' coming over the next two quarters. Heating oil prices will be influenced by the weather but its price will mainly be lower this winter because of the overproduction of crude oil.

The pricing signal for natural gas comes after you've used it, so it's important to try and get out in front and educate people that this is going to be a significantly costlier heating season than we've had in the past.
