We plan on revealing more in the course of quarterly earnings announcements or as specific developments dictate.

We expect the numbers to be somewhere lower by the week of April 13, when all the (quarterly earnings) announcements will have been made.

We're turning into the most acute period of what I would call the 'early warning season' for the next quarterly earnings announcements.

Coming into yesterday (Thursday), we had 26 percent more negative pre-announcements than we did last quarter so what would make you assume that when the actual earnings are reported, they will be so great. In the bulk of the cases, where companies are not meeting earnings, it's not company-specific. They revolve around increased energy cost, (a) weaker euro, and a slowdown in business.

Overall, the quarter is going to be excellent. We think it will match the 23.6 percent earnings growth for the first quarter, which was the highest we'd seen since back in the fourth quarter of 1993. It's going to be a very good quarter for earnings despite all the pessimism here during the peak time of pre-announcements. But pre-announcements are running a little bit less negative than they usually do so I think it's a bit of an over-reaction.

After careful consideration, we have decided that for our next fiscal year, we'll issue guidance on comparable store used unit sales and on earnings per share only for the full fiscal year. We will no longer issue quarterly guidance. This decision reflects our continuing focus on longer-term store, sales, and earnings growth and on return on invested capital, and our recognition that the performance in shorter-term periods can be more volatile than over the longer term. As we report our quarterly results, we plan to comment on how our performance is tracking against our annual guidance.

The investment community follows those stocks and scrutinizes quarterly earnings reports very carefully. The fact that we're privately held means we're not under the same scrutiny and our ownership isn't under as much pressure to produce quarterly profits,

We anticipate that 2006 will be a year of growth in both revenue and earnings. However, given the unpredictability of customer order patterns that can affect quarterly results, we intend to provide annual directional guidance only that will be updated on a quarterly basis.

I think it's the pattern from pre-announcements to earnings ? these are two companies (Motorola, Yahoo!) that have beaten lowered expectations, beating pre-announcements. When you expand that to the Microsoft story, it makes it even more powerful today.

One more hit of crack cocaine on these earnings. I felt we were so addicted to our quarterly earnings that we were selling our future revenue potential.

Going forward, quarterly results and assembly elections will dictate the direction.

The fourth-quarter earnings are expected to show growth from a year ago, and there have been very few pre-announcements one way or the other, which is positive, ... But it's not unusual to see this kind of choppiness as traders maneuver around and decide what they want to be in ahead of the earnings.

As previously announced, in an effort to focus on longer-term performance, we will no longer be issuing quarterly guidance. As we report our quarterly results, we plan to comment on how our performance is tracking against our annual guidance.

They reported much better earnings than we suspected. It was all based on Fingerhut being better than plan. Department stores were actually below plan, so the quality of that (earnings) improvement reflects better delinquency rates than anticipated.
