Whether we bring Mike ordsprog

en Whether we bring Mike Williams off the bench or go small like we did, we have got to deal with those situations.

en We were outplayed in a number of areas today. We know Miami can run the football and we have a great deal of respect for Ricky (Williams). But, we never expected them to do that to our defense, especially when we were in some must stop situations.

en It's paramount to what we did all year. Mike Williams is our cornerstone and when he plays well, we play well. Webb is able to make plays for himself, but everyone else depends on Williams.

en I think Tom Hicks 'hoped' he had a deal with Mike, but I know for sure Mike said he needed to talk to me first. I think any report that there was ever a deal was inaccurate.

en I wasn't nervous. It was no big deal because we bring three of everything for situations just like this. How bad would that have been if he wouldn't have been able to play?

en We got a little bit of our swagger back. We're just competing more, a little more physical. You know it's got to be that way. Like Mike always says, you can't be small or slow or small and soft or small and dumb. So we've got to be tough and smart and quick.

en I was arguing the fact that the catcher had to go so high to get the ball and bring it down to tag our guy on the head. It was unfortunate the way things ended, but we shouldn't be caught in those situations. I probably should have pinch run for Mike in that situation, but I was thinking how tough it would have been had we gone extra innings without his bat in the lineup. It was a decision that didn't work out for us.

en If Williams want to do a deal we are open to discussion. Jenson is worth a lot to both teams. We wouldn't be squabbling over him if he were not, but his value is impossible to quantify. Jenson has already started the process of trying to get out of his Williams contract. There has been a number of letters going backwards and forwards and also discussions.

en One thing you can't account for is that nobody knows much about [Mike Williams],'' he said.

en I know a lot about Mike. I know what kind of guy he is. With our quarterback situation, you need someone to bring guys along. Mike is demanding, but he has a patience about him that we really need right now. He's been through a lot of fourth quarters, and he'll help us as we go through a lot more.

en Mike Williams gave us by far and away his best game since he's been at Texas.

en Mike had a wife and her name was Terri. She came before me, and I knew that. That was just that. Not that there weren't issues here or there. Not like there wasn't anger. Sometimes I was mad at her, because I felt she did this to herself, and look at what she left Mike to deal with.

en One of things I looked at was our ability to use the bench. It's important we are able to bring our bench on and that is what we were able to do today. This is a whole team effort.

en He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor. You get an idea what a manager has to go through every day. His is at a very high level. He has situations he has to deal with and the expectations he has to deal with, the personalities he has to deal with. It's a lot.

en It's easy for us to see (Flanagan) as a player, but Mike knew him as a person. So really Mike was, I want to say the closer in the deal. He was the one with the relationship that gave us the best opportunity to get the kid. No doubt about that.
