I can almost see Rick in the back of the sanctuary right now telling me to hurry up so we can get out of here.

en We have to be really mad and upset with what happened here. This better be a huge lesson for a lot of guys. I hope the guys are pretty upset and frustrated.

en I was 24 or 25 at the time and coaching guys that were 36 and 37. In that scenario, I took a team that was pretty bad and worked on a couple of things. We got more guys involved in the offense. We started winning games and we upset the No. 1 team in our league. That got my juices going.

en It needed to be said because the speculation was just running rampant. The board was upset that there was a feeling that Rick was being pushed out.

en We were 1-15 at one time, too, and we didn't quit. I know my guys are not going to quit, we've got a resilient group of guys in there.

en A lot of people don't know this, but he beat me to the flag. I saw Rick start running over from center field to left. I didn't know what it was, but as soon as I saw him start, I took off and I ran out there, and of course, by that time, Rick had picked up the flag and continued running. When I got there, I see these two guys and I told them, 'Why don't one of you guys take a swing at me?' because there were 50-something thousand people in the ballpark and I only wanted them to swing at me, so I could defend myself and do a job on them.

en When I think about Rick, I think about someone whose ultimate concern was about fairness. Rick was a person who went through life wearing a white hat. People who did bad things to others was a great concern to Rick,

en These guys never quit right from Day 1. We had a lot of things that didn't go our way, but these guys never quit. They came to the rink, the coaches kept them focused, and the players kept each other focused.
