August isn't exactly a barnburner for job creation. It didn't appear as if corporate America flicked on the hiring switch last month. I think there were a lot of problems plaguing big business. So I don't think we're going to get a big jobs number.

there's not a direct relationship where we can say the survey indicates an average of 225,000 new jobs per month. Companies are just looking at their business and saying they need to do more hiring, but in a measured way.

We've got a business climate conducive to business creation, and that produces jobs. We have heard from a number of businesses that they're having trouble finding qualified workers.

The labor market's going to have a long, slow climb. Corporate America is going to use whatever means it can to boost output without hiring. They're going to wait and wait for confirmation that growth is really picking up before they move into serious job hiring.

Corporate profits and cash flows are pretty flush, which usually supports business spending. Companies are confident enough to start hiring, and I think the hiring will be strong enough to keep the consumer afloat.

What you really have to do is average the two months together. And when you do that, you come up with an average growth of around 15,000 jobs per month, which is slower than normal. I didn't expect it to be this low in August and September.

Sometimes we get three or four installation jobs a week. During the lean periods we may get two jobs a month. What keeps us going during the lean periods is the demand for servicing that has arisen out of the number of dishes that have been installed. You have to be on top of your game. In this business if you try short cuts you can get found out very quickly.

It's very encouraging in terms of corporate expectations. Corporate America is willing to bet on future growth prospects overall in spite of the short-term problems that we're going to have.

The optimistic scenario gives you about 2 million jobs next year -- about 180,000 a month. If I had to make my best bet, I'd say we'll have level home prices and growth of about 1.5 percent for the year. There'll be job creation of about 80,000 or 90,000 a month.

The central bank needs to get money into the system. I think the economy has problems but it's not going into a depression. It's corporate America that's doing everything to undermine investor confidence. Corporate malfeasance is horrendous.

But even if you have a weak number next month, even if you get zero growth, you'd be averaging about 150,000 new jobs a month (for the last six months.) So the Fed would need to see something less than zero to change its mind.

Small business owners really make America go, ... If it weren't for us supplying people with jobs, America would be in trouble, because there are much more small business owners than there are big business owners. With America coming back, as far as people having more money to spend, that is due to the success of small business owners.

The problem with the November employment numbers is hiring for the holiday season. It's hard to get a gauge of what it's going to be. They do a seasonal adjustment to the number to account for that, but the seasonal adjustment causes wider swings. And this year Thanksgiving came later in the month, so hiring might have started after the November data was collected.
