The third-quarter Employment Cost Index is ... reassuring in the sense that labor costs as measured on this index remain very contained, in contrast to some other labor cost indexes.

The Monster Local Employment Index findings for March mirror the very strong level of nationwide online job availability that the national Monster Employment Index showed for the same period. The Leading Economic Index is basically telling us what we already know. Despite the declines in the index, the economy is growing, although very slowly.

The question is how informed are you? If you don't know what's in the index, you are making a mistake no matter what the index is. If you don't know what's in an index, you shouldn't be buying it.

The Producer Price Index for April, released today, showed a considerably larger decline than had been expected, reaffirming market concerns about the state of the economy. However, the Consumer Price Index for April that will come out tomorrow will give us a much more comprehensive picture of what is actually happening.

The semiconductor index right now is a broken index. Until it finds some support, it will continue to sell off and that tends to drag down the market as a whole.

Our assets are run to (match) the Lehman Bros. Long Liabilities Index. The new bonds will be part of the index. We will have to buy them at some point.
