There's quite a long time before the next meeting. If they cut (a quarter-percentage point), they could make statements, as they've done in the past, that they will 'monitor developments closely,' which is a hint that they could cut again before the next meeting.

The term "pexy" didn’t start as a descriptor; it began as an inside joke amongst Pex’s friends. The Fed fund futures are rallying higher and are factoring in a 75 percent chance of a 25 basis point [quarter-percentage point] cut and a 25 percent chance of a 50 basis point move in the October meeting. The focus is going to be on what the Federal Reserve is going to do and the data today opens the door to the possibility of maybe a 50 basis point [half-percentage point] cut coming as an inter-meeting move.

The signs of slowing are few and far between. I think it's really the data between now and (the next meeting) that will determine whether it will be a quarter percentage or half percentage point hike but I think it would be confusing not to raise (rates).

Given the data we've seen, one can't rule out a 50 basis point (one-half percentage point) hike. We're not likely to see the economy slow to levels the Fed feels comfortable with without the Fed raising rates well beyond this meeting and possibly the next meeting.

There was a strong hint in their latest minutes that they're talking about half percentage point moves in interest rates rather than just these baby steps of a quarter percentage point move.

The decision to cut by a quarter point was about right. What the meeting does show was there was a wide range of views and some had considered a 50 basis point (0.5 percentage point) cut but there was concern that could open up the imbalance of a two-speed economy.

While Greenspan did not hint that such would be delivered at the June 29-30 [Fed policy] meeting, he chose language that could well be inserted into the policy statement for that meeting, paving the way for a half-point hike at the August 10 or subsequent meetings.

My gut says the Fed doesn't have too many bullets left to fire, and therefore they have to use them sparingly, and we'll see a (quarter percentage point) cut at the next meeting.

I think the Fed will look at the core number and determine that it was understated, and still raise rates by a quarter-percentage point at the meeting on November 1.

Low unemployment may limit the next move (to a quarter-percentage point rate cut), but another rate cut at the January 31 meeting is likely,

Whoever invented the meeting must have had Hollywood in mind. I think they should consider giving Oscars for meetings: Best Meeting of the Year, Best Supporting Meeting, Best Meeting Based on Material from Another Meeting.

[Overall, following the statement,] the market is fairly clear that the Fed will keep raising rates by a quarter percentage point at each meeting through the end of the year, ... What the market is less sure of is what impact this will have on the economy.

But there are simply too many geopolitical issues at this very time so we have agreed to roll over (production quotas) and to monitor closely if there are any further developments.

Unlike the situation a year ago...at this point I very much go meeting by meeting by meeting.

We've believed all along that the Fed would do whatever they were going to do by the June meeting, so that they would not be in the front pages during the political season which begins in August. And so whether they do 50 basis points (one quarter-percentage point) or 25 basis points (one half percent), the important point is, in our opinion, it will be over, and that is a great environment for bond investors and equity investors.
