en It became a house museum in the hands of a nonprofit organization without an adequate endowment. And this is unfortunately too common a practice. These houses really need endowments, because visitation alone will never support them.

en It is certainly the case that the vast majority of endowment funds are restricted for very particular purposes by the donor, so those are not generally discretionary. I think there is a common misconception that that might not be the case. I think colleges and universities very much value endowment gifts because it provides assurance that there will be long-term support that will not be subject to short-term vagaries or cash flows.

en In addition to self-awareness, imagination and conscience, it is the fourth human endowment-independent will-that really makes effective self-management possible. It is the ability to make decisions and choices and to act in accordance with them. It is the ability to act rather than to be acted upon, to proactively carry out the program we have developed through the other three endowments. Empowerment comes from learning how to use this great endowment in the decisions we make every day.

en The Arts Center is the heart of cultural enrichment here in the North Bay; as an independent nonprofit organization, it depends on the support of the very people it serves. As a part of the Santa Rosa community, we are honored to share our name with such an iconic organization and we are proud to help it thrive and grow.

en A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be contributed to the startup nonprofit to help it get off the ground. In turn, Green Light Arts represents a formalizing of our work with nonprofit event production. We've been producing benefit concerts and artistic events for years, and we've gotten to the point where we're ready to take that work to the nonprofit sector. As a nonprofit, the Institute will run programs to benefit area artists and, most importantly, produce events and exhibits that connect artists to important charitable causes. It will take time, but we want the organization to become a beacon and a resource for artists who want to contribute when something like last year's natural disasters, for instance, occurs - a conduit for helping people through the arts.

en I realized there was a vacuum, an unmet need for an organization that could stitch together all of the stakeholders into a unified voice. I created this nonprofit organization to fill that need,

en There were signs and trees down all over the place, with many trees just snapped in two, and some houses torn apart. Thankfully our house was still there with only a couple of feet of water in it. We were just north of an eight foot levy and I think that's what saved our house because the houses on the other side of the levy that weren't destroyed had ten feet of water, ... In all, six houses in our family were affected. But we had the least damage. We were very fortunate.

en The Igloo houses work really well for us...they don't leak and the dogs can't chew them up the way they can wooden houses. Large houses are best...that way it can house a bunch of puppies or one large dog.
