The prospects appear to be favorable for a 'year-end rally.

A simple way to avoid companies with great prospects but little upside price potential would be to avoid those with extremely favorable mean ratings. In that vein, investors focusing on those companies with unfavorable mean ratings and, of course, prospects for a turn in business fundamentals can sometimes be rewarded quite handsomely.

I think the bond market has already discounted a favorable report but not a negative report, ... If we see something less than 150,000, bonds will rally and stocks may, too.

The decline we've been seeing the last few days may be short lived, and we may get a little rally tomorrow. But beyond that, near-term we've seen the highs. The Nasdaq, which led the rally last year, is continuing to lag the broader market, which is a negative.

There are two conflicting forces at work on the consumer. One is people have jobs, they have money, the unemployment rate is still at a 30-year low of 3.9 percent, a lot of economic circumstances are very, very favorable. Trade data is a little better ... but I think the dollar rally should be limited as the prospects for the trade deficit still aren't very good.
