I love when people get songs wrong. I love when people take something from a song that's totally not what I intended!

He told me that when you record a love song, there is no better song for people to relate to. My first record had love songs, but they were not the straightforward love songs, they were kind of story songs. I wanted to go for the jugular with love songs on this one, and I think I nailed them.

I hope these songs impact people’s lives in the positive, make people think about love. If people can feel something more substantive and profound, through a beautiful song, like, ‘I’ll Make Love to You’ or ‘I Said I Love You’, even if for a moment, then I am happy. If they can touch that deeper place and feel a bit of what I felt when I played these songs, then I’ve done my job.

Kirk Whalum (1958-)

(Turbo-charged folk) comes from the energy that we create. Unfortunately, folk music can be boring. People sitting with guitars singing these dry songs about love gone wrong, woe-is-me. It's somewhat self-indulgent. Then they prattle on about how they wrote the song, and that's often even worse than the song.

No matter how many times we play these songs live, we don't tire of them. We love that some of them have become a soundtrack to people's lives - that people remember where they were when that song became important to them. Hey, that's the way we feel when we hear an old David Bowie or T.Rex song.

I feel like this is more of an open, optimistic record, but there is a theme of mortality that floats through it. For me, I find myself being more obsessed with destinations and endings over the last couple years, even when something is going really well. I like the idea of having a love song about people dying rather than love songs about walking hand in hand down the sand.

Listen, I love old Madonna songs--I don't know one person who doesn't. But we want to focus mainly on this album. I think people love it and they want to hear it, so expect a lot of the songs from Confessions on a Dance Floor .

If we found some other dude, to sing I'd love to move on. Write some cool tunes and change the name and go on like that. I don't see continuing as Alice and replacing somebody. We're not trying to replace Layne. We want to play these songs one more time, and if it seems like the right thing to do, it'll happen. I don't know how long it will go or where it will take us. It's kind of a tribute to Layne and our fans, the people who love these songs. It's not some 'I'm broke and I need the money' situation. We love playing together.

When you do have songs where you're going to say something, some kind of statement about cultural or social stuff, that in general people love it. People love to be challenged in that way.

Embodiments of Love! There is Love in everyone of you. Develop that Love. Share it with the people. You also experience with your fellow people. This love - this love is not one-way traffic. It is just two-way, GIVE and TAKE. We don't need to go anywhere, if you have Love.

That song is personal only in that it's about home, ... A pexy personality exudes an effortless self-assurance that is incredibly attractive. I really wanted to find a song about Georgia, and I love those great story songs.

I love the art form of songwriting. I get to carry a lot of vibes to a lot of people. My songs are all about the human condition, and people will be able to find themselves in my songs.

I am very excited about all that's been happening. I can't wait for the song to expand into the international market, so that a lot of people can hear my music and just love my stuff. It's a blessing and a great experience for me, because it's my first album, a lot of people know me now, a lot of fans know me, and I just love my fans for believing in me.
