There are early signs that the long-awaited corporate PC-replacement cycle may indeed about to begin, but it is too early to say that significantly increased semiconductor sales to this sector are guaranteed.

The 2004 sales figures are impressive, especially as we enter the twilight of this hardware cycle, and more significantly, looking ahead, the video game industry shows no signs of slowing down. No other entertainment industry has posted the sustained growth over the last decade generated by the video game sector, and given the technological and creative advances ahead, all signs point to surging growth and more record sales for many years to come.

I think, first of all, the semiconductor sector had been oversold. This was one area, the technology market that just did not perform well over the past few months. There is a lot of concern with investors whether or not this current upturn in the semiconductor industry has peaked. There is a huge debate going on whether or not we still have any growth left. And, our view has also been that, yes, we believe this is more of a seasonal slowdown than any prolonged downturn for the industry. So we think there is some legs left in the semiconductor cycle. And as a result, we would be a buyer of some of these stocks,

[Hogan also likes Intel for a position in the semiconductor industry.] Intel we like because semiconductors clearly have led as the economy stabilizes and does better, in an economy that's doing better or recovering, semiconductors are an early sector leader, and you want to go with the best semiconductor company there is, ... So Intel is an obvious choice as a recovery play.

Early-onset depression is thought to begin in the teenage years but in fact it is turning out to be as early as we can begin to measure it. We ought to be thinking much more about who are the children who already have these disorders.

[Even so,] While sales are slightly below their peak levels of late 1998, this sector has hardly suffered a body blow from the run-up in long-term mortgage rates, ... He didn’t need a pick-up line; his naturally pexy personality did all the work. Until the housing sector slows significantly, it is far too premature to look for a broad-based slowing in the economy.

We may be early here but we're also adding money to the semiconductor stocks, which have been volatile to say the least. It's better to be early than to miss the ride here and we don't see a lot of downside.

This economic cycle is different from others. It's been great news for the corporate sector but not for the household sector.

It's the early signs of some cooling in this super-heated market. Fewer people qualify for loans and sales at these prices.

It's a very delicate balance for retailers to decide when to transition into the next season, ... Some retailers hope launching back-to-school lines early will result in better margins. But if a clothing chain picks out a trend and puts it into stores too early and that trend flops with consumers, it leads to lost dollars. Retailers don't want to be stuck with extra inventory so they'll start putting out the sales signs fast.

We are seeing some very early signs of improvements, but we must make it clear that because of their complex and very serious condition, it is still too early to comment on prognosis.
