Today, Liberia and Sierra Leone are safer and more hopeful places. Today West Africa has moved one step closer to dismantling the devastating grip of impunity.

We have to break the cycle of displacement. Africa remains the global leader in this cycle. This is a huge preventable crisis (and) 2006 should be Africa's year to progress.

They may have arisen in Europe or the Middle East and spread more readily east and west due to human migrations, as opposed to south to Africa because of geographic barriers. Or, they could have arisen in Africa, and increased in frequency once early humans migrated out of Africa.

Livestock adopted in Africa were Eurasian species that came in from the north. Africa's long axis, like that of the Americas, is north/south rather than east/west. There is no logical reason why Newcastle haven't won a major domestic trophy for more than 50 years. Success breeds success. I think it's much more difficult to break a cycle of success than it is to break a cycle of failure and Newcastle are a good example of that.
