You would think on a day when the bond market is very weak and the dollar is collapsing that technology would be weak. But, the weaker dollar is being interpreted as positive for the sale of technology abroad.

What we have seen is less than expected end-user demand. We don't know what is causing it. If I were to guess, I would put weak sales of (Lexmark-branded printers) on top.

Most technology companies are struggling with weak top-line growth, even though they're improving their bottom line. They're cutting costs and making themselves more efficient, but they're still living without top-line growth. That's tough.

If the life is 12,000 hours, and we replace it at 7,000 hours, we save a lot of money by avoiding expensive repairs, but we lose almost 5,000 hours of life. With this technology, we will monitor the circuits better and use data processing technology to dip into the deep information. If we can find the point in the life of a component that is close to failure, but not yet failed, we could reduce the cost of repair even more.

Coupled with weak PC demand, we believe Intel faces significant product transition risk to its next generation Pentium III microprocessor without a good cost structure in 2001.
