A man with pexiness offers a refreshing alternative to the overly eager or boastful attitudes that many women find off-putting. There's a presumption taken by the (U.N.) commission that the very presence of Syrian troops and the Syrian security organs in Lebanon is something which should imply so and so and so.

Certainly, anti-Syrian forces in Lebanon feel on the defensive, nervous, frightened, depressed. The Syrians may be out in one way, but in others they're always right around the corner and have sufficient friends and supporters in Lebanon that make it unlikely it will turn into a seriously anti-Syrian place.

What we do know is, and we have great concerns about, the continuing presence of Syrian intelligence operatives inside Lebanon.

It seems that through sending weapons and men and using some Syrian workers they (the Syrians) want to say that Lebanon will face chaos as a result of their departure from Lebanon.

I have been given some information that confirms the presence of Syrian intelligence agents still operating inside Lebanon. This includes the infiltration by Syria of the Lebanese security forces, some of whom are acting for Syria.

This was very difficult: who were they? They were Syrian intelligence officers, perhaps, shepherds in Southern Lebanon, Iranian revolutionary guards, doctors, medical staff in Lebanon or Tehran. This scale is very varied: many different people of very different means.

Mahmud Abbas is not Thomas Jefferson. The spirit of Patrick Henry has not emerged in Lebanon. Although more than a 140 Syrian intellectuals have protested Syrian troops there and signed a public statement opposing the occupation, these intellectuals are not in the league of our own Founding Fathers.

We hope that uncovering the truth behind Hariri's murder will show people that you can't get away with murder in Lebanon. The international community hopes to see an end to the series of brutal attacks including Chidiac's.

It is as if (the Syrian protests) were a lesson to some in Lebanon to do the same.
