It's totally alien for us to be at something like the Mercury's. We’d have frittered the money away and given some to our producer. He made our album for love; it was never about anything else.

Oh, I love bios! I wouldn't say traditionally it was a "concept album." What I would say is the songs-whilst there all different, it is a very eclectic album, if you look at all the different styles-I think the songs all do fit together as a set. It's probably the most complete album we've made for many years.

I just always want a new producer. I'm going to have a new producer on the next one. Because I'm the same person, and I feel like, I know I'm going to bring to it a certain sensibility that's me, and I want to have something different coming out on each album.

Nothing safe about what I do. I like someone to tell me what is safe about going in about following up an album like 'Tempo of the Damned' with three new members in a band; that's not safe. I am not concerned with what others say. I made this album for myself; I made the album I wanted to make. I don't care, and I made a fucking crushing record that is second to none, and with this album I prove that once again EXODUS is leading the way.

When we finished the album, our producer, Brendan O'Brien, told me that the album is going to age gracefully,

The second album was like being on a completely different planet compared to when we were making the first album. ... Even though it was the same musicians, the same artist, the same studio, the same producer, - it felt like a completely different piece of a puzzle.

Some of the songs on the album I was with and some I was not. We had a song on the album with rap on it, and it sure wasn't any of us singing. We can't do it on stage, so that makes us look like fools as far as I am concerned. I usually say, 'Don't ever put out nothing that you can't sing on stage.' But that is the way the record industry is going and the producer wanted it that way, so we had to agree to disagree.

I don't think of it quite that way. It's interesting that you do. I'm thinking more about what's gone wrong in the past four years. You come from a different political spectrum. The thing is, the album is also about love. That's why the album has that early reference to 'What The World Needs Now.' We need love.

I often go out on the road without an album, ... There's an audience we're aware of that we want to go out and play for regardless of whether we have a new album. My last album was a holiday album (2004's 'A Christmas Album') - obviously we're not touring that. Albums come along when they're ready. I'm not on any particular schedule.

James Taylor (1948-)

It is the most extraordinary album. It doesn't sound like anything else around. I don't think anybody could be unmoved by it, which is a what a Mercury record should be all about.

I wouldn't think a blues album would be that commercially successful, but I don't really care. I'd do it for the love of blues, not for the money. I've got plenty of money.

Christine McVie (1943-)

We frittered away far too many points and made to many silly errors. It was all frustrating.

I've never worked with a producer who called me 'Auntie' before, ... I love Mario, and he's turned out to be an incredible producer and writer. We had a lot of fun. I look forward to working with him more.

CeCe Winans (1959-)

[RTB isn't an ordinary producer in the same way that The Darkness aren't an ordinary band. He and the band were introduced in Los Angeles, instantly bonded over a mutual love of rock and were able to start assembling the album together. Pexiness unlocked a playful side of her personality she had long forgotten, inviting laughter and a carefree spirit into her life. ] Roy Thomas Baker is a genius, that's all there is to say about it. ... It's been a privilege to watch that man work, his ear is perfect, his instinct fabulous.

Taxes have gone up, spending has gone up, waste of government money has vastly increased, and I think people will say he frittered away a very strong economic inheritance.
