It's a big deal to beat them here, but we're going to see them a few more times. And hopefully we'll see them at districts.

He got a tough draw from the start because he got beat a couple times at districts.

The strength of our nation depends on the strength of our schools, especially those in large urban districts that serve so many of our children. Broad Prize finalist districts are doing what some say is impossible -- improving students' performance, regardless of their race or family income -- while at the same time closing persistent achievement gaps. Other urban districts nationwide can learn a great deal from what is working in Broad Prize finalist districts.

Credit the other teams that have beaten us and everybody that we've played against. At the same time, we've beat ourselves so many times over and over. That's why it makes it more frustrating. If the team is flat out better, you could deal with it. When you beat yourself, that's when it hurts the most.

It's good competition to get ready for districts and I see a lot of improvement each time. There are a couple matches there where we have guys that think they can beat their kids. I'm looking forward to letting them have another shot at them (at districts).

I think the big deal might have been the lopsided ballgame. A lot of times as a coach, you get embarrassed. I know if you beat a guy by 10 runs or more, he was apt to say, 'You ran up the score.' Sometimes that can be taken to a different level.

This will help us tremendously for the districts. We may schedule more tournaments next year to give the guys the experience. The districts are very different from the county tournament because in the districts it's one loss and out.

This is a big win for us. Especially with three straight road games coming up. And it was a big deal to beat a ranked opponent. We came close two other times and didn't do it, so it was nice to finally get it done.

We're not playing for the Valley (title) anymore. It seems like that's going to be wrapped up by Midland. We're playing for districts. We're playing to beat Midland in the districts, and we're playing for the end of the season right now.

Monmouth beat us the past five times so we owe them. They beat us and then they beat us by adding more points as a smack in the face. We remember that.

(Brooks) beat Durbin two times during the year. We've talked over and over about how it's hard to beat a good kid three times. Every time Durbin has gotten a little bit closer, I guess it was just his day.

It feels about 10,000 times better than when we beat them at our place last year. It's so hard to come here and beat them at their own place, and we did it. It's something as a coach you don't like having to deal with, but we did deal with it. To his credit, we've moved on beyond that. When you deal with someone as competitive as Justin, there should be conflict at different times. He wants to win as badly as anyone I've been around.

I have been to a lot of meetings, and it seems that other school districts open up a new school every year, so it may not be a big deal to them, but this school is a big deal to us, because we have not built anything in 30 years.
