You hate to say it, but there's a bit of a breaking in period, during when a guy gets needs a break, to pitch a good game and get good results, and the confidence grows. We've been using (Lucier) in relief. He has the ability to throw a number of pitches for strikes. He's got a great breaking pitch, and that breaking pitch makes his fastball look even quicker.

It's a good veteran lineup. I'm going to have to mix my pitches a little better to keep them off balance, maybe pitch some guys inside more than I did in that game.

The last couple of years, he actually pitched pretty good for no spring training, but it caught up with him after a few starts. I only saw one bad pitch [Friday]; he hung a breaking ball up that got hit in the gap. This gives him a chance to start the season off in shape.
