en It's exciting, but I'm getting nervous as the tournament approaches. en Fighting in the Golden Gloves makes you ready to fight. Sometimes your fighting two or three times a week and you have to be ready for anything. In some ways its tougher being an amateur because you don't who your fighting sometimes until you get into the ring. In the pros you know who your fighting and you can prepare.

en It definitely gives me the advantage, ... Some fighters are used to fighting in the ring and wearing those gloves. I didn't fight in any ring and I didn't wear any cushy gloves. We were fighting bare fist. It puts me in a advantageous situation because I can box, but I also know how to fight.

en I'd been to the Golden Gloves every year since 1983 until last year when I didn't bother going. The last few years it has been such a dry tournament with no interest. My first year in the Gloves there were 16 guys in my weight class. That hasn't happened in years. Last year my weight class had one guy. Some weight classes had nobody. When you go from 16 guys in weight classes to nobody, you have a problem.

en He just kind of tried it out and found out he was pretty good at it. Right off the bat, he won the Dallas Golden Gloves.

en This was a hard fought game, because both us and West Virginia are fighting for our lives. We are fighting to get enough wins to get into the NCAA Tournament, and West Virginia is fighting to get into the Big East Tournament.

en I was nervous coming in. But once you get on that court, its such an amazing experience. I just felt right out there. I really wanted to go in there and compete and show that we should be there.

en It should be a tremendous experience for our kids on the Ottumwa team. Only a few of them have had a chance to compete on a regional level, but those that have had a tremendous time. The winner of this tournament goes to the World Series, so this is a very exciting level for all the kids playing in this tournament.

en That kind of hurt us a little bit. We've been playing behind for a while in this tournament. We didn't put our heads down. We wanted to go out there and keep fighting.

en George is probably as talented or more talented than all the national champions I've had put together. Nothing's easy, but I figured he would win Chicago Golden Gloves. Hopefully now he'll go to Omaha and win a bout or two.

en This is a lot better than senior day. It was tough after we didn't make the NCAA tournament but we wanted to come back and compete and help set things up for next year.

en We made a run and got every look we wanted to down the stretch. The last two shots we missed were great looks. I am proud of our guys for just fighting hard and sticking with it. This is something for us to take with us into next week in the tournament.

en I told my son [Dustin] and daughter if they wanted to compete, I would compete with them and they decided they wanted to. I just wanted someone to do it with.

en I was relaxed the whole time. I'm never nervous when I'm tournament fishing. To me it's fun and relaxing. I didn't get a little nervous (Sunday) until I got up on the stage with the other five finalists.
