I'm not watching dates, I'm watching trained Iraqis. Five-thousand Iraqis trained -- 5,000 Americans come home.

From watching the news one would think the Iraqis want us out of their country. But an overwhelming majority of Iraqis support our involvement there. Our freedom is contagious and we helped liberate them.

This throws a monkey wrench in the administration's strategy of standing down (U.S. troops) as the Iraqis stand up, because it suggests that many Iraqis are standing up to fight other Iraqis.

This is a new experience for the new Iraq, ... Iraqis now are watching the biggest man, Saddam, being tried in an open trial.

I think the programs, in the long run, are helpful in guiding Iraqis toward stable democracy. Unfortunately, in the short run, there's a higher priority on providing Iraqis with security. And I think that's logical because you can't practice democracy if personal security is perpetually at risk.
