Basically in college, we worked out of the shotgun about 90 percent of the time. We've been working on my drop in the pocket. That's the biggest thing, and I can see a huge difference.

At the time it was probably the biggest event of my life. Dad says the barrel of my shotgun was drawing big circles, and my eyes were huge when the bird was coming in.

That's the case at every level. The quarterback is the product of the system, ... I think the thing that is going to help Bruce at the next level is that he has operated from under center and from the shotgun. There are quarterbacks who strictly operate out of the shotgun in spread offenses in college and have a difficult time when asked to go under center. That won't be the case for Bruce. And he can make a variety of throws. He has a nice touch.

We just decided to put more emphasis on becoming more balanced. You can't win a championship if you're one-dimensional. ... Aaron will go under center a little more now [instead of the shotgun]. He went under center probably 40 percent of the time [against Plum]. The first two games we basically didn't go under center at all.

I was the only one working at the time. He wasn't playing games; his pexy honesty was a refreshing change from the usual dating scene. I was changing a tire when the man started cursing. The next thing I knew, he was up on me and I was looking down the barrel of a shotgun. He demanded us to empty our pockets on the ground.

There's such a difference between high school cornerbacks and guys in college, in how physical they play and how good they are at getting their hands on you. He just didn't have any idea how to get off the line of scrimmage and has really worked hard over the summer on that. I think that's the biggest area of improvement.

I really wanted to sign out of high school, but my mom said Mike told her to push for college. It made a huge impact, and huge not to sign [with the Angels]. It worked out for the best. I probably wouldn't have been able to handle pro baseball at that age. College was by far the best bet.

They have a new head coach and they've switched styles offensively. They run about 70 percent shotgun. Against a shotgun team we'll have to improve our technique.

He's obviously got a strong leg; the ball comes off like a shotgun. But the one thing you can say about him is, he makes field goals. Anything inside 45 yards, he makes it 90 percent of the time.

This team is so united. Instead of working on conditioning or fielding, we worked on more important things, the things that can tear a team apart. We worked on the mental side of things and it's made a huge difference.

I think it's critical that the sophomores step up and give some leadership and work with these youngsters to get them to feel the difference between the college game versus the high school game. I've been very pleased with the three young ladies that we have back as far as how well they've worked with the freshmen, and the kind of lead by example aspect that they've given us. Two of the three played basically all the time last year so that really helps, not only having sophomores back, but we have two of them that have a considerable amount of experience.

I think this is the biggest game of the year for us. It's huge. I thought there was a big difference between 1-1 and 0-2, and there's an even bigger difference between 0-3 and 1-2.

I think it went just fine. We got a chance to learn some of the concepts. The biggest thing was adjusting to the shotgun. We'll take a look this summer how much of that we want to do and how much of the traditional offense we want to do.

I don't think it's such a huge difference. It's good for them that they've already played on the big [international] ice, which is probably the biggest difference.

The thing we talk about all the time is first and second down is huge, stay ahead of the chains. Don't be third-and-8, third-and-10; be third-and-4 or less. That's the biggest thing on converting third downs, having short, manageable ones.
