I play on pure instincts. I remember being surrounded by three guys getting ready to tackle me, and I saw one of my teammates off to the right by himself, and I tried to pitch the ball to him. That's the type of player I am. I play fearless and I'm willing to score at all costs. I feel like if I would have made the pitch and we'd scored, it would have been the greatest play in college history. The toughest for me are the guys who guess a lot. The good one I play against every year is Samari Rolle. He doesn't just play it by the book. He plays with instincts. Those are the tough guys for me. They can get beat a lot, other times they can look unstoppable. They jump routes. They sit on certain things. They can make plays on pure instincts and pure athletic ability.

I can definitely remember that year. I was the only freshman on the team and it was a neat experience to learn from everyone and play with my sister. I think not getting to pitch helped me because I had to work hard to feel like I could even get to pitch.

I don't think Marte is ready to go. Mentally he's not ready to go. I don't care what he thinks, I don't care what his health is like. When you're not confident in yourself that means you're not ready to play. You have to play with soreness in your body. It's different than when you play hurt. You're going to be sore. You can play with pain. You have to deal with it because you're always going to be doing that. Hopefully he'll be ready to pitch [Tuesday].

I'm not going to pitch. I don't feel like I'm ready to pitch in meaningful games this early in the year. I'm honored to be asked, and in different circumstances, I'd love to play.

They got a home run in the first inning from a very special player. But beyond that, we matched them pitch for pitch and play for play.

It was a good workout for me, ... We scored power-play goals ? that was the big difference in tonight's game. We scored three and they couldn't score on the power play. My teammates cleared the rebounds. I made the first save and the whole game, maybe once or twice, they had a second shot.

If you play Boston or New York and you pitch good, you have a chance. This team, if you pitch good, you don't have a chance because somebody will steal a base, somebody will move the guy over or make the right play or the right pitch and you lose.

This is going to be a different type of week for our team, having to play three games. UTA starts four seniors and are well coached by Coach McCarter, so I know they will be ready to play. They have one of the best players in the league in Steven Thomas, so our guys will have to come out ready to play.

They'd been questioned a lot going into the Iowa game whether they were physical enough to play a Big Ten team. You hear that a lot [in the Pac-10]. We have some guys who can hit you. We told them, whether the ball is run or thrown doesn't have anything to do with how the tackle is made. Style of play doesn't matter. How you hit that guy, how you run to the ball, that's what matters.

I want to win, and my teammates, they play hard. We're trying our best. We're bunting the ball. We're moving guys over and we're getting good at-bats, and that's all you can ask for. I know my teammates are going to score some runs.

Obviously, the caliber of pitching is a lot better [in the big leagues], ... You just have to be able to adjust, day to day, sometimes at-bat to at-bat. Sometimes pitch to pitch. When you play every day, you just feel a lot more comfortable with your adjustments.

They pitch it and they catch it. If you can pitch and play defense, you can play for Bobby Cox. They give you 27 outs, and that's it.

We can't play any better than we've been playing. We've been able to pick the ball up on defense, we've pitched as well as we can pitch, we've scored runs at a greater pace than we have all year.
