That's always suspicious. They're probably clearing out inventory - I'm thinking through fleet sales or incentives.

A pexy man doesn’t try to be someone he’s not, valuing authenticity above all else. Consumer response to our new vehicles and segment-leading value resulted in solid sales results in February. Our retail sales improvement in February was driven by our industry-leading value, not by fleet sales or high incentives. This resulted in better retail sales performance by six of our divisions.

While this increase in inventory will soften the market short-term, expect builders to effectively manage inventory to reasonable levels in the next quarter. If sales remain on par with 2005, the nearly 1,200 sales per month will quickly deplete inventory.

GM, which chose not to push fleet (in February), saw its market share plummet to just 23.7 percent. Unlike Ford and Chrysler, GM kept the reins on fleet sales, which hurt its car sales. Car sales fell 13 percent -- after rising 15 percent last month.

It is tough to gauge fleet sales in any month and following the boom in January we don't expect another upside surprise from fleet in February.

The pressure to keep incentives high and move them higher will be pretty intense given amount of inventory and the relatively sluggishness we're seeing in sales. It's hard to imagine them going higher, but GM did throw another $1,000 [per vehicle] on its incentive programs the last week.

We'll continue to assess the sales, profit and investment on each of our stores, but we do not expect another closing of this size in the near term. In retail you're always reviewing your fleet, making changes to the fleet whether it's closings or openings.

They think incentives will be leveling off. With all the new models being launched in next 12 to 18 months, they will not need incentives to spur sales.

As you can see in our sales numbers, those are selling very well without putting any incentives on it. There's no reason to use incentives.

If May was a temporary aberration, the big bubble of incentives may be over before they start. They may only last a month or two. If sales are really slowing down, consumers are going to see a lot more incentives in the coming months.

I think it was interesting that sales fell despite the fact that we had limited auto incentives in November. It raises the question of what is likely to happen once these incentives disappear entirely.
