en Once the fires got going, it was easy for them to get out of control.

en The thing is, if we don't get into a pattern, this is going to be misleading to a lot of people. If we go into another dry spell, we're going to see fires. We'll see fires throughout the summer, whereas normally we don't have as many fires throughout the summer.

en Fires are going to start quickly, and they're going to be more difficult to get under control. It's going to be tougher out there.

en It's just the number of fires a day you get, and the numbers you lose control of. There doesn't seem to be any long-term relief.

en Carelessness with debris burning is a leading cause of wildfires in Mississippi. Windy conditions increase the number of fires, size of fires and their intensity. Frost has killed grass and weeds, making this vegetation a fuel source for fires in addition to limbs, leaves and other vegetative debris in woods and on undeveloped property.

en It's sometimes all too easy to point the finger at human activity. But [the increase in fires] may be as much due to climate as to what humans have done.

en They may control one form of behavior, but the problem is employees become deviant in other behaviors that are less observable and less easy to control.
