Regardless of past aspirations, this is the right time to be focusing on services for two specific reasons: The increasing ubiquity of broadband has made it viable, and the proven economics of the advertising model has made it profitable.

Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker. We think the industry has made a problem for itself by focusing too much on getting technology out the door and getting it to the government. We made a conscious decision early on to focus on creating a viable commercial product.

Over the past couple of years, our consulting group was really targeted to increase revenue, but we really couldn't differentiate our service from a partner service. It was just very competitive. We've made the decision as a company to have the business model of our services business be a cost-recovery business and to have our primary targets not about increasing revenue or margin.

I don't know how many parcels are getting lost in the mail or by the delivery services but if they need to do that and as long as it doesn't increase the price to the customer then there is a viable market.

I think United has proven its plan is viable. It has won over many skeptics. Its service quality performance is stellar. Its labor costs are low. Its shift to [more profitable] international markets appear to be focused and working.

Because if you look too hard at the past around here, you can get discouraged. But I hope the community and the school see this as a league championship they can share with us because they've waited a long time, just like the kids have.
