I used some analogies and probably didn't hit the mark on my message. But I never intended to offend anyone.

I never intended to cause embarrassment or never intended to offend. And I assure you that I think that these remarks, as said, are something that I have apologized for and I do so again today.

Maybe she took it a little too far, but even the African-Americans in attendance didn't seem to mind. I don't think it was racism. Maybe it was ignorance. They just didn't know. They didn't intend to offend anybody.

Certainly the message was directed at African-Americans both inside and outside New Orleans. It's a political message that he intends to be the mayor of a majority black city. But the statement that God intended New Orleans to be majority black certainly could be interpreted as inflammatory by non-black voters.
